Meet the newest Zanegood...George. He is a wild turkey in our backyard. We told you all we wanted a third didn't we!
Well George is a very sweet, trusting turkey. He hangs around the golf course all day like any guy. The sad thing is that George is wounded. He was hurt a few months ago and now walks favoring his right leg. We do not know exactly what happened, but he hobbles when he walks.
So we recently adopted George. He comes around 2-3 times a day and we give him a scoop full of cereal (the 1 gram of sugar kind). He loves it. We also put out a bowl of water that we fill with cold fresh water each morning.
We love him and so do the girls! Ellie and Sagan often are found looking out the sliding glass door or the master bedroom windows looking for him. Especially in the morning. You can either hear Ellie yell, "Mommy there's George." or Sagan saying "turkey!" George will stand with his head turned (turkeys eyes are on either side of his head so its always turned profile) looking toward our windows. He gets all excited when we appear and I emerge with a white cup.
He comes to me and gobbles (not too close and there is a fence between us).
George is friendless. Due to his injury many other turkeys that live in the area will walk through our yard and annoy George. Driving him away. The last time it happened I rushed outside and began to yell, "GO!" The strange turkey's ran away while George did not move. I thought that was wonderful. He trusts me.
So you have met our newest member of the family.
Our friend Sean gave us some excellent advice to follow. "Never mind the healthy cereal. Feed him Fr*it Lo*ps through November and he will be fat enough to roast come Thanksgiving!" Thank you Sean! Ewww! Poor George!
