Why Sagan Amelia? What's in a name?

Many of you know the story, but I thought I would explain just how weird we are.

Ellie Skye was pretty much my choice that Fred agreed to. We reserve the right to VETO any name the other might suggest. While thinking of Ellie's name during our wait for her we knew right off her name would be Ellie in honor of Fred's mother who passed in 1999. Her middle name, Skye, came from Fred's love of everything to do with the sky. Astronomy, aviation, and pretty much everything else related to the sky is his passion. There you go with Ellie's name.

With regards to Sagan Amelia this is all Fred with no VETO from me. Ready?

Sagan:
Carl "Sagan" astronomer and author. (TV show Cosmos for example and the novel turned feature motion picture Contact with Jodi Foster) A strange connection with the name Ellie and this movie is that the main character (Jodi Foster) is named Eleanor and is referred to as Ellie. This just keeps on getting weirder.


Amelia:
First, we needed an A name for her. My mother, Alice, passed in 2006. To honor her we would make her middle name start with the letter A. We were everywhere with this choice. Looking for celestial bodies starting with A, airplanes starting with A, and just about anything else dealing with the sky. Fred suggested Amelia for (Can you guess?) Amelia Earhart famous woman aviator!


So there you go. But of course, everyone knows that SOMETIMES when babies are born (or matched in our case) they don't really look like their name. When I look at Sagan I see the name Alice. She just looks like an Alice to me. A few other people have agreed with me. Fred is flexible, but we like the unique name of Sagan. Sisters Ellie and Alice are lovely, but we have confused Ellie enough. We have called her Sagan for so long Ellie would just go insane.
Do I look like a Sagan or an Alice?

Right now Ellie is still adamant that Sagan is from Africa. (We were expecting an Ethiopian adoption) Even though we show her the map in her atlas it's just not sticking in her mind. We think it's sweet.
