Today we had our first "medical" conference. It was important that everyone (kindergarten teacher, school nurse, guidance counselor, and principal) know about Ellie's seizures.
Remember this is my former elementary school that I taught in for 8 years. We are not zoned for this school but I want it desperately for Ellie.
So for weeks now I have been dreading this conference. I have been worried about Ellie's placement. I love all 4 kindergarten teachers. I love them and admire them. But now Ellie is involved and she has grand-mal seizures. It's so different.
I requested a specific teacher because she is the most experienced. The curriculum would and could be delivered by each and every kindergarten teacher without a problem. But what if Ellie has a seizure in the classroom? Who would be the most calm and care for Ellie?
You cannot request teachers. It's not a practice at the school. However, they did place Ellie with the teacher we would have desired most. It's a matter of "comfort" that is all.
An emergency plan for Ellie, it sounds so very strange, has been put in place. There will be medications and ice packs scattered throughout the school. Just in case.
We have the teacher placement for Ellie's Kindergarten year. She will be well taught and cared for.
