What A Beautiful Girl!

Now that I am the mother of two girls I know that I must blog about Ellie or she will feel that I am playing favorites. She scans the blogs so she will make a note, both mental and verbal, that she sees a photo of Sagan but where is one of her.

Equal billing is big in our house. After 4 years of only child status we must be sensitive to her needs.

Ellie is 5 now. She is really a wonderful little girl. Ellie's favorite things to do are anything arts and crafts, play baseball, dress up, sleep, and bake. I call her my sloth because of her ability to sleep most anytime of the day. If she is tired she can easily pass out and sleep for a couple of hours. At night she sleeps 8-7 each night which is a good amount of sleep for a girl her age.

She is still attending the VPK program at her school. That will end on June 6 and then camp will begin. She is going to enjoy a summer of camp and swim lessons. She has started swimming without any help, but needs to build up her skills. The YMCA will have classes all summer long. She will attend regularly. By summers end her skin will be a deep brown regardless of how much sunscreen we apply and reapply. After the cruise she has a deep tan line.

The question I get the most is: How does Ellie get along with Sagan?

Amazingly enough, very well. She adores her sister except when Sagan hits her with something. Sagan gets many time outs for being overly playful.

They share a room and that is working out well. It was at Ellie's insistance. She must share a room with her sister! Sagan does suffer from nightmares in the early part of her sleep cycle (usually within 2 hours of falling asleep) but the fuss rarely wakes Ellie up. I don't think it ever has.

The only "conflict" there appears to be is that when we give attention to Sagan, Ellie will be immediately there trying to distract us. She also tries to act a bit babyish now and again, but that is to be expected. We correct her immediately and talk her from those antics.

Ellie is very bright and we are working with her reading skills. She reads every night and often times during the day. She loves her computer and workbooks. It amazes me that she can already add and subtract. We have started her own blog so she can work on her writing skills. She is funny! When I told her about her blog she was very excited. However, she can't figure out what topic to write about. So we are helping her out.

Lastly, Ellie starts Kindergarten this fall. She will attend an excellent school here in the Dr. Phillips area. My only concern is her getting sick and having a seizure. Though our neurologist tells us that she is healthy and will grow out of it there is the moment that I panic knowing that she will have more soon. School is full time and her immune system, though more mature, is not strong. They say she will grow out of it by age 6. We shall see!

To conclude, Ellie is the most polite, amazing, and wonderful little girl. We are very lucky to have her too. So lucky.
