While I might have sounded negative this morning regarding my trip to the DMV I will be happy to say it wasn't horrible.
I did make the mistake in not bringing enough information. I had to go home and come back (with the girls) and bring back a W-2.
Lesson 1: Bring MORE documents then you need. Why? They have the right to decline any document as not sufficient. Really. So they asked for a paystub and I brought one. However, it did not have my SS# on it so it was considered insufficient.
Lesson 2: The DMV employs people who are generally unhappy and unpleasant. This is wrong! I encountered 4 people at the DMV each whom were nicer then the person before! I was stunned and kept on smiling.
When I was told that my documentation wasnt enough they asked if I could come back today. I said I was not going to be able as I had to care for my 2 daughters (I did not want to subject them to the DMV). They encouraged me to bring them and to skip the line. I was told to return to the woman who was helping me.
After Fred and I took the girls to Mimi's for breakfast I took the girls home so we could pick up my documents. When we returned to the DMV we were taken almost immediately and within 15 minutes we were on our way. I did have to take a new photo. It turned out nicely.
All in all a pretty plesant morning.
