***Scroll down to see update to this story. TOO FUNNY!
When Sagan was sick last week we let her have her thumb for comfort. Usually at night we put socks over each of her hands so that she will not chew her thumb and break the skin. With the congestion she had the thumb would only stay in as long as she was willing to go without air. It was sad and funny at the same time.
So now that she is well we have returned to putting the socks on her hands.
She is far from pleased. Actually, she is downright angry.
At night, if she takes the socks off her hands prior to falling asleep Ellie will come out of the girls bedrooms and tell. We call her "the informer!"
During the day Fred and I take turns checking on her to see if the socks are still on. This is the battle of wills! Today I made three trips into the bedroom to replace the socks. She will take them off and hide them. YES! Hide them!
By the third trip in she was screaming angry with me. You'd think she was being tortured.
Going cold turkey is never fun. I feel so sorry for my little bean. Time to break the thumb habit.
***Update***
Tuesday night I was puting Sa to bed and I put double socks on each hand. I made sure I put her in a short sleeved shirt so she would not overheat. I kissed her goodnight and went across the hall into the office. I made a couple of calls and then went to check on her. Her thumb was in her mouth! Sock were off both hands.
So I rolled her over and began to put the socks back on. She waved her hands not to let me! Ohhh! Then the screaming began. Once the socks were on I put her back down. I went to the doorway and shut the door just a bit. I was still able to see her. She immediately began to remove the socks. She is fast! I opened the door and light flooded the room. She began to scream before I even got to the crib.
I put the socks back on her and Fred came in to see why all the commotion. She was really being dramatic. I picked her up and began to rock her to calm her down. Fred walked out and in the 2 minutes I was rocking her she took the socks off BEHIND ME and threw them on the ground. My smarty daughter, right!
I put them back on her and the screams increased in intensity. She tired herself out and passed out.
If you saw her thumbs and forefingers you would agree she needs to have them covered. At one point both thumbs were green and icky. The doctor is the one who told us to wrap her hands.
